This is the third year that Emily has been a Tour participant, but since she doesn’t have a web presence we wanted to let you know a little more about her and her work early on. Emily’s puzzle gourds are simply amazing! She works with the gourd to decide where to cut and how to make interesting ways for the pieces to work together. Wood burning and dyeing complete the process to make each gourd into a unique and creative piece of three dimensional art.
Emily Rabideau – Biography
I attended art school at UW Eau Claire.
Since then, I have worked in many mediums,
including a passion for working with gourds.
Working with natural materials and nature for images
brings a special satisfaction to me. I live in the country
surronded by nature and my dog and cats.
I work with the gourd to visualize the design of
leaves, animal and birds.
Once I’ve got the design drawn, I cut
the 2 or more pieces that fit back together,
next is the woodburning and finally dyeing the
gourd with natural colors.
A stop at Emily Rabideau’s studio in Oneida will be well worth your time. She is great at discussing and demonstrating how she does her work, so you’re sure to have wonderful visit!
